Immaculate Distraction

spicyinvalid Immaculate Distraction is a welcome foray into a tiny, dimly lit attic of dusty, moldy bric-a-brac from yesteryear. However, a closer listen reveals deeply refined treasures to discover once we overlook the sad, hopeless lyrics. Once we digitally transfer everything salvageable the music production itself is the true hero. To me, the instrumentation alone and production value overcompensates for the depressing lyrics. A silvery crunch on the guitars within the golden-elaborate chansons. Favorite track: We All Know How It Ends.

Crossing time-zones Godforsaken deserts Midnight in transit stations The illusion of freedom Written in blood written in stone It's just an idea It's just an idea The twisted wreck Of a helicopter gunship A distant call to prayer Sweet liquorice and bitter cigarettes It's just an idea [...] He carries her in his heart She's all he had now all he has White knuckles holding fast His mother's photograph in a young man’s hands Now everything is lost Now everything is lost They say half the future’s buried in the past But the fallen will not weep for us When it’s our time to choose It's just an idea [...]

Wild 03:28
Man running from burning building He says why does everyone Everyone have to be on a journey What if I don't want I don't want to be on a journey And you can fight the flames Try to salvage what remains and tell yourself you're someone good But there's a part of us that's wild Doesn't want to be rewired to live in tidy neighbourhoods Man running from burning building He says why does everything Everything have to be for a reason What if I don't want I don't want to know if there's a reason And you can fight the flames [...]

There's a message It says come back right now And you looked like you'd seen a ghost People talking Then they're moving away And you're questioning everything Transatlantic And the earth was shaking Lost in transit Lost in mid translation Oh and the kingdom to come Will be a kingdom of reason Did I tell you All the things we could see When they held you up to the light Drink some vodka and then Walk out the door You said this is better for everyone [Chorus] We like the meaningful songs They send a meaningful signal In the Hare Krishna restaurant in Soho No one recognised you Coz you didn't look much like the photo On the inside I said everyone's lost And you said yeah but nobody really cares Run the numbers And learn to be smart Now the world is turned upside down [Chorus]

I’ve drowned a thousand times I’ll drown a thousand more Your ocean’s tide Draws me down, down, down All space bends to your will And time itself stands still All motion stopped All pain forgot The sun may rise and the sun may fall But all I hear is the Sirens’ call I’m strung out on the shore I’d curse these yellow sands But your song’s so sweet There’s no storm can break this sleep I dreamed you set me free But I couldn’t keep away Yeah there’s no price I would not pay The sun may rise and the sun may fall But all I hear is the Sirens’ call

When I was seventeen And really so in love I did not understand How much of an embarrassment I was to you But looking back I see You were really very kind to me And you had to move on But at the time I just felt so rejected But now I'm a grownup I'll say I don't care And life's just a train wreck And life isn't fair But when I look in the mirror I'm not sure what I see Now I'm a grownup When I was ten and We were driving back from holiday And it was dusk and we hit this young deer After we came off the motorway And it was hurt real bad Dad stopped the car got out to do what had to be done But I could not understand I thought it was my fault I so wanted it to be OK [Repeat chorus] It never really goes away It never really goes away

Close Of Day 04:10
See you same time tomorrow Goodbye Kelly goodbye Sister J Oh yes you hide your sorrow well but No need to tell these kids that god does not appear to care Oh if he's even there Walked down to old St Martin it's Dusk already there's cold December rain In the Piccadilly lights This place has seen the lost and found for Seven hundred years And so they come and pray Or just to stay out of the rain Oh were there words enough and time I would Explain the world away and If life's just a story (maybe) we can change the ending if we try And though the past's been priced and sold Tomorrows yet untold Strayed into being happy Fields of barley framed our stupid bliss But it was all reflected lights I never learned how to be kind until I lost someone I loved But I'm not here to pray Just trying to stay out of the rain [Repeat chorus] And the words become a song And the child becomes a man

Born in Belarus in 86 yeah Worked in construction back on the farm then Dressed as a bishop she did deals in St Peters now she Drives a Bugatti through the streets of Lausanne It's not the money that's what she said Don't want to end up with a hole in the head We'll rule the world with the power of love Oh do you think so coz I don’t think so We took an Uber to the conference centre she said They’ll act like animals to get what they want Blood on the dance floor but you get what you pay for when you Hang with the cool kids at the policy disco It's not the money that's what they said No one looks good with a hole in the head We'll rule the world with the power of love Oh do you think so I can't stay in bed for ever My real life will never start Complications don't want to know Happy ending I don't think so Hybrid warfare Grand synthesis Do the practice Get dog biscuits Keep it simple Keep it stupid Makes us feel good We’re gonna use it It's not the money that's what we said [...]

Last night I dreamed that I could play the guitar I was on The Titanic trying to sing My heart will still go on But I kept getting it wrong and I couldn't get the high notes but At least we hadn't hit the iceberg yet and All the stars above us shone Like cheap sequins in the sky Like they'd all just been stuck on By someone who didn't try I was studying Kate Winslet She was standing by a ventilation inlet In a girly dress despite the cold and I could see that she was not impressed By my extraordinary rendition I said you're looking nice and I need relationship advice and she replied Let's take a walk on the starboard side And the stars above us shone Like cheap sequins in the sky Like they'd all just been stuck on By someone who didn't try When life's too flattering too sweet We all like to pretend But we all know how it ends We're listing to port and Kate's politely listening as I'm listing all the things I should have said to you but Never did And realistically I think she's thinking Less about you and me and Rather more about the fact that We've all started sinking yeah Into the unforgiving sea oh But the stars above us shone [...]
